About the Consortium

Who We Are

The Consortium for Darkness Immersion is a collaborative network connecting researchers, facilitators, practitioners, and organizations already working in the field of darkness immersion. We support the people doing this work and serve as a resource for those participating in darkness immersion experiences.

What Drives Us

Darkness immersion is a powerful practice with deep historical roots and growing scientific interest. As the field develops, we provide a collaborative network, knowledge pool, and community to strengthen the foundations of the work together.

What We Do

We build community and resources across four pillars: advancing scientific research through collaborative initiatives, connecting facilitators to comprehensive training, sharing knowledge and best practices through shared education initiatives, and establishing partnerships with professional facilities dedicated to darkness immersion.

We also serve as a bridge to adjacent modalities including psychedelic-assisted therapy, contemplative practice, and sensory-based interventions. Interdisciplinary relationships across the broader field deepens our understanding of immersive transformative experiences.

How We Work

Our approach is collaborative and interdisciplinary. We bring together the expertise of researchers, facilitators, and practitioners across the field to strengthen and connect the training programs, research initiatives, and events already shaping the practice of darkness immersion.

Our Leadership

The Consortium for Darkness Immersion is guided by an assembly of representatives drawn from associate organizations across the field. Members bring expertise spanning research, facilitation, education, and retreat center operations in dark retreat and darkness therapy contexts, ensuring that the consortium's direction reflects the breadth and diversity of the darkness immersion community. This collaborative leadership model allows us to serve the field as a whole rather than any single perspective within it.
